Monday Challenge - Black Racer vs. Scarlet Skier

In a slalom competition.

Remember, while Black Racer is probably more POWERFUL, he's used to just going right through things. Can he handle the slalom part?

Which books from this current comic book week were free of snark for you?

Which book this week did you have zero snark for?

I did not have any snark for Powers #19, as I thought it was a very nice return to the high level of quality the book had for many months. Sharp dialogue, interesting plots and a nice look at superheroes and the people in superhero universes.

I did not have any snark for Astro City this week, which had a very nice look at the relationship between two arch-enemies who have played themselves into a stalemate - now the only question is - who will blink first?

How about you folks? Let me know!

Top Five Brother/Sister Super Villain Duos

Here they are! The top five brother/sister super villain duos!

5. (Tied) Scarlet Witch/Quicksilver and Aurora/Northstar

Neither of these pairs are that much of supervillains, as the first pair quit (although they keep going back and forth) about forty years ago, and the second pair are JUST becaming supervillains this week!

So not enough to go higher on the list!

4. The Parasite Twins

These Greg Rucka creations were not my cup of tea.

3. Captain Cold and Golden Glider

Yes, they both SORTA turned good for awhile, which is why they're not higher, but these are two classic super villains!

2. Fenris

These twins got the cover of the 200th issue of X-Men!!! Not too shabby!

1. Shimmer and Mammoth

I like these two Fearsome Five members.

A classic duo, they cannot be separated even though they were both killed off (it seems) about nineteen times each.

Those are my picks!

Agree? Disagree? Let me know!

3. This character was supposedly killed by the Red Skull.

4. This character was a professor.

5. This character developed the means that saved Red Skull and Captain America when the Super Soldier Serum turned against them.

Really Cool Scene - The Boxing Glove Arrow

Conner Hawke, the newest Green Arrow, joins the Justice League just in time to have to stop the Key.

And when all seems lost, Conner saves the day by using the boxer glove arrow his father had that Conner had derided when he saw earlier in the trophy room.

What a cool scene.

Top Five Captain America Girlfriends

Cap is quite the romantic, so here is his list of his top five girlfriends!

Honorable Mention to Rebecca Quan and Connie Ferrari.

5. Peggy Carter

Has Peggy NEVER appeared on a comic cover?

Weird.

Peggy was a resistance fighter who Cap fell in love with while fighting in Europe.

4. Betsy Ross

Betsy was Cap's Golden Age girlfriend who eventually ended up becoming the superhero Golden Girl.

She became Cap's partner after, oddly enough, Bucky was shot!

Her current continuity is a lot more convoluted.

3. Rachel Leighton

Diamondback was an interesting girlfriend for Steve Rogers, as she challenged his stodgy ways.

I really liked her.

She gets extra credit for being the first time Cap going on a date made a cover!

2. Bernie Rosenthal

Diamondback, though, wasn't as compatible with Cap as much as Bernie was, who really challenged Cap in ways other than "loosening him up."

1. Sharon Carter

If Sharon never returned, she'd give Bernie a rough time.

But the quality (by Waid and Brubaker) since her return has been impressive.

Also, note that there has never been a Bernie Rosenthal comic book!

Score!

Agree? Disagree? Let me know!

Nagging Questions for 7/16

Do you have to live within a sector to be Green Lantern of that sector?

How close is Abin Sur's planet to ours?

Do any other Green Lanterns have personal spaceships?

Do you have to have a ring? Could you use it as, like, a necklace?

Does the energy come directly OUT of the ring?

Really Cool Scene - Captain America on the Plane

In Civil War #1, there is a scene that I am not too fond of, where Captain America fights against SHIELD. However, I cut the scene a lot of slack, because it leads to one of the coolest scenes of the year so far, as Captain America jumpos off of the Hellicarrier to land on a fighter plane, which he then commandeers and insists that the pilot take him to safety (keeping the plane in perfect shape, of course).

Besides the coolness of Cap on the plane, there is the bit of Cap chiding the pilot for his profane exclamation when Cap lands on the plane.

Really cool scene.

Which Books Released Today Did You Have No Snark For?

Which books from the 7/12 comic book week were you devoid of snark for?

For me, it was Ms. Marvel #5.

Not the best book of the week, but it was a solid book without a single bit that I could snark about (unlike some other, better books this week).

Top Five Acolytes

These are the top five coolest Acolytes of Magneto!

5. Exodus

Exodus probably could have been a lot cooler, but he was a bit too much of a "plot device" character. Sort of a place-filler for when Magneto was gone.

What's he even up to nowadays?

Does he still have his powers?

4. Scanner

I liked Scanner, because she showed us how a good mutant (in this case, Cyclops) could help turn around people's perspectives. She was hardcore anti-X-Men until Cyclops helped lead her and some other Acolytes to safety after their headquarters was destroyed by Holocaust.

At the end, though, she turned on him when he turned her over to the authorities. She doesn't have powers anymore after House of M.

3. Fabian Cortez

Cortez is this high mainly just because of the sheer importance of him. He's been killed off, like, three times. But he keeps coming back, like the proverbial bad penny.

So even though he is a bit light on personality, his sheer importance gets him this high.

2. Amelia Voght

She dated Professor X! How cool is that?

Pretty cool, I say.

Sadly, that's about it for her, in terms of personality. But that's a big deal!!

1. Joanna Cargill

She was part of the Alliance of Evil.

She was a Femizon.

She was an Acolyte.

Due to some Jean Grey re-programming, she was even an X-MAN!!!

Plus, she has an almost twin in Flint, the superstrong black woman from Stormwatch.

Agree? Disagree? Let me know of your top five!

Monday Challenge - Kyle vs. Hal vs. Guy vs. John...

Who would make the coolest looking kite if the four were entered into a kite-making contest?

Would John's architecture background help him make a sweet design of a kite?

Or would Kyle's art skills have him take the prize?

I presume Guy and Hal would be in trouble, but you folks might know better!

Nagging Thoughts for 7/9

If he only knew them through their secret identities, which Justice League member would Clark Kent like to hang out with the most?

Same question, but Bruce Wayne instead.

How often do you think Danny Rand and Luke Cage talk to each other?

Who is the best lawyer in the DC Universe?

How about the Marvel Universe?

Who is your favorite character in Beyond #1?
