Nagging Thoughts for 12/18
We often see Mr. Fantastic with a beard or stubble, but my question is, how do you cut his hair? Isn't it just as durable as the rest of his body?
Is Johnny Storm's salivia also on fire? So could he SPIT fire? That's be kinda cool.
I know SOMEone must have explained this over the years, but how exactly does turning invisible translate into being able to project force fields?
Does the Thing have fingernails?
If he does, do they grow? How does he cut them?
Did they ever explain why Sue and Johnny were on the rocketship?

Simple; it's the other way around. Sue's fundamental ability is to project force fields. It just happens that the first time she used this power, it created a force field with the property of bending light around her so that she became invisible. The logical first assumption was that her power was merely invisibility...but after Reed started trying to figure out the mechanism by which she was doing this, they discovered the whole "force field" thing and he started coaching her in different ways they could be used.
The invisible no-prize for this belongs to a comics fan named Carol Strickland, if you can find an invisible envelope to send it in...
I imagine Reed's stretchy powers only apply to living cells -- so he could cut his hair and fingernails.
According to FF #1, Sue was on the rocket because she was Reed's fiancee, and she goes where he goes (showing a surprising amount of backbone that was rarely seen again in the Lee/Kirby era). Johnny just went with his sister. I know I've seen retellings of the story where Sue bankrolled the launch after the government cut Reed's funding, and that's why she and Johnny went along.
I'm pretty sure Ben doesn't have fingernails. What else he does or doesn't have remains a mystery.
Reed shaves just like anyone else. You can see for yourself when the team takes a well deserved personal grooming break in the middle of their first fight with Galactus in FF#49.
