1/5 Who's Yer Fav'rit...

...Aquaman costume?

Only counting the three majors ones, as I agree with Laura, the Veitch costume is not really a costume.

Aquaman Classic. I would be flummoxed by any other choice. Flummoxed, I say!

Classic. Gotta go with the Classic.

I have to admit that I like the design of the pants on the "Pirate Aquaman" outfit. But Classic all the way.

Yeah, the Classic look all the way.

Apart from any other consideration of aesthetics or nostalgia, it's the only logical choice for a comic book character who lives underwater. The Danskin "camoflage" leotard was spectacularly wrongheaded from the start -- you can see what the designer was thinking, but he sailed on in perfect confidence totally missing that the end result was a character who will always blend in with his backgrounds! And that means a less readable comic book page.

(N.B.: no matter how badly designers want to make Batman's costume all black and grey, they always end up having to pull back and restore the blue elements for exactly the same reason; otherwise he disappears into the shadowy Gotham City night scenes. The needs of the page sometimes have to outweigh prosaic "realism.")

Any costume that makes Aquaman look like Conan or a pirate just screams "We have no idea who this character is! We want to make him into something else that we know how to write instead!"

Orange and green makes for the liveliest color scheme on a given page -- and the orange evokes the fish that most people would be familiar with from aquaria, the common goldfish -- and the "scaled" look of his top makes an interesting texture. Heck, Marvel went out of its way to give Captain America chainmail for the same purpose.

And finally, thaks to the pervasive influence of Super Friends, a whole generation knows this costume as Aquaman. Why throw away iconic status like that?

Classic orange-and-greens, baby.

I do like the blue, but the orange works best. It'd be nice to see Aquaman just wearing one of his different costumes occasionally - I don't wear the same shirt every day. Changing into the blue occasionally, just for a change, would be a nice touch.
