Top Five Spider-Man Inspired Heroes!

Here are the top five heroes that are all, in their own way, trying to recapture the coolness of Spider-Man.

5. Darkhawk - Chris Powell had an amulet that transformed him into the armored Darkhawk. However, Chris also had the same teen problems that would always befall Peter Parker.

4. Gravity - Sean McKeever's new hero moved to New York City to try to make it as a hero, but found himself flunking out of college! Watching Gravity try to make a name for himself while keeping in college (and possibly having a lovelife) make him a cool Spider-Man character to watch.

3. Nova - Richard Rider even had the double RR monogram! Talk about COMMITMENT!! He also did the whole "young hero dealing with powers and his life" routine, and did it well.

2. Invincible - Robert Kirkman's hero is a mix of Spider-Man and Superman, but it really works well.

1. Static - I guess you could call him the "black Spider-Man," but whatever you call him, just call him "a good comic to read," because that is what Static was, a good comic to read.

I miss Static.

Am I missing any other heroes, in your opinion? Let me know!

I think Speedball may have counted, but I didn't really like the character until New Warriors (and Parker-like personal lives rarely work in a team book).

I miss Static, too, dammit. And Icon & Rocket, and Hardware.

Hmm, Rocket may have actually out-Parkered Spidey, when it comes to "dealing with teen life".

Didn't both Nova and Darkhawk go to the same HS as Peter Poarker to boot?

Back in the 90s, they did a Spider-Man story arc featuring Nova, Speedball and Darkhawk, where one of them (Speedball IIRC) actually brought up the fact that each of the three younger guys were hyped - supposedly by the Marvel Universe media but in reality only by Marvel - as "this decade's Spider-Man".

Sadly there has yet to be a parady of this involving Wolverine teaming up with all of Marvel's attempts to repeat that formula.

I'm shocked you didn't include Terry McGuinness, as seen in "Batman Beyond".

Shocked. ;)

Heck, Dini is on the record as saying Terry was basically his attempt to dp Batman as a "brattier, angrier Peter Parker".

I'm surprised you didn't include Kyle Rayner (Green Lantern).

Kyle was too cool to be Peter Parker.

Terry, though, is a good call. He can beat Chris Powell.

The Ditko version, and even the Len Wein Version, of the the Ted Kord version of Blue Beetle was Spidey-inspired.

Yes Ted's Beetle was an update of the older Beetle, but it was Spidey inspired.
