Fun Run for 9/4

Today's fun run is Keith Giffen's short run on Magnus Robot Fighter.

To call the run "fun" is a bit misleading, as this was basically a tragic run.

However, Giffen handled it quite well, I thought. To be honest, I think it may be the best work that Giffen ever wrote solo (with Vext coming a close second).

His take on Magnus is that of a man who has achieved his life's goal, ridding the world of robots, only to find out one day that he was horribly, horribly wrong.

Not only did he FAIL, but he failed MISERABLY, as the robots have slowly taken over basically the entire world.

Therefore, it became a Robot Fighter solo - against the world.



And the worst part is that it is not only a solo Robot Fighter, but an old, out of practice, man.

It was depressing, but it was also surprisingly soulful.

It has nice Kevin Kobasic and Claude St. Aubin art, as well.

I really enjoyed it.

But it WAS pretty sad, as this was the END of the first Valiant run of Magnus Robot Fighter, so you knew that Giffen could do pretty much whatever he wanted to...and, well, when you see the last cover...



...ANYthing could truly happen in this issue.
